The Queen’s desire that her Platinum Jubilee should be celebrated with tree-planting throughout the land matched SSIB’s desire to plant trees to protect our local environment and make the town beautiful.

A large project was the planting of ten flowering cherry trees in Ostler’s Lane in November. We felt this would make a magnificent show for this entrance to the town. Sometimes it was hard going digging deep enough in the gravelly soil to allow a good-sized hole for the trees, but we all felt it was worth it. This was the last project that Mary Sarre planned for us before her sad death shortly before the trees were planted.

The trees were sponsored by Ron and Eileen Cox, Jane Wood, and from part of Cllr Jenny Marklew’s allocation for Stony Stratford
