On July 14th was the Awards Day for SSIB’s Golden Garden competition - and residents had made such an impressive effort that we handed out over 100 Golden Garden certificates!

Regional BiB judge Anne Kempson, who had judged the front gardens with SSIB volunteers Mary Sarre and Pat Kyd, kindly presented the awards in the library to the Stony Stratford Gardeners. Joint first prize went to 109 and 68 Milford Avenue; and joint second prize to 46 Weavers Hill and 51 The Limes – all very different, but beautiful front gardens!

We also gave out Community Garden certificates to Tony Price and the Church Garden volunteers; the Horsefair Green residents; London Rd and Calverton Rd Cemetery groups; the Greek Church gardens; Russell St Nursing Home and The Plough. The Britain in Bloom judges who assessed the town in the Regional BIB competition commented: ‘Residential and community gardening is strong throughout’ – and they named Milford Avenue’s front gardens in particular.
