We're Re-Designing the Sensory Garden

The major project this year will be the re-design of the Sensory Garden on London Rd and last week we brought in the volunteers with most muscle power to make a start. Out came the gigantic shrubs, clinging to the soil like massive molars; and when the ground has been prepared and the new plants delivered, in will go the new. The Phlomis and Buddleia had grown so enormous they were crowding out the rest so Mary Sarre and Pat Kyd have been working out the exciting redesign. Phil, Julian and Ken hauled out the massive shrubs and took them away in their trailers. Meanwhile, back down the road, Yvette was cutting down the dead hollyhocks, which made for such a colourful display all summer. We still need to tidy and mulch the soil before the new plants go in – however, we made a huge difference, and it’s now possible to see the lovely autumn colours of the little trees behind the bed.
