Apple Day 2016

The new SSIB gazebo (partly sponsored by the MK Community Foundation) came into its own at this year’s apple day – not to protect from rain or biting winds, but from radiant sunshine – which gave an extra spirit of festivity to the day.

The bulb planting activity we organised for the children was so popular that we realised that we’d run out of bulbs if we didn’t reduce the number per pot. 70 children proudly walked away with their carefully planted tete-a-tetes, so they can watch the stems and leaves sprouting, and then the yellow blooms peeping out in the spring. Though the activity is free for children we did have a donations box, and parents gave generously. Another bonus from the day was that we signed up a new volunteer, Judith Francis.
