As always, SSIB, Stony Stratford Business Association and Christmas Lights volunteers worked hard together to bring summer colour to the town. On June 2nd one group gathered in the Market Square and another at the Wolverton Rd Roundabout to start the emptying of the winter planters,

then we all brought the plants that could be saved to set them out in our York House Community Plot where they’ll spend the

summer before being replanted in the Autumn. Recycling plants is dear to our hearts!

Meanwhile, at a table on the High St, passersby were offered polyanthus and pansies for free – though a number of kind residents popped a

donation in the SSIB box before moving on.

And those pansies that were too bedraggled even to give away we tipped on our compost at York House. Nothing is wasted!

Very early next morning one group was off to the Preston Bissett Nursery to pick up plants and planters, while the Nursery brought the rest. Other volunteers were waiting to plant them in following the design earlier agreed between SSIB, SSBA and the Nursery.

This year we decided to go for a dazzling white, sizzling pink and gentle blue colour scheme, and the feedback from residents has been very positive. Changeover days reflect the way that all groups in Stony Stratford combine to make the town beautiful – the Town Council pays for the contents of the planters and the watering;

The Business Association organises the hanging baskets and their watering; and SSIB volunteers advise on design and provide the free labour throughout the year!
