The SSIB horticultural talk this year was given by Alan Marham, who is the inspiration behind the lovely Open University gardens. To a packed audience in the Library on March 15th Alan described his gardening philosophy, and illustrated what he has achieved with a series of stunning photographs. He likes natural planting and combinations of unusual plants, and the results of his approach to design and plant choice are magnificent.

At the end of the talk he said he’d be very happy to take people on a tour of the OU gardens, an offer that many in the audience were keen to take up. A visit has been arranged for May 20th – a treat is in store!
