Stony Stratford in Bloom has been supporting Stony Stratford Town Council in its application for Green Flag status for Wolverton Rd Recreation Ground by planting new flower beds and painting the railings, but the SSIB group felt that the youth shelter was detracting from the attractiveness of the park. They applied to the Milton Keynes Community Foundation for a small grant for a community artist to work with local children on the repainting of the panels to a design of their own creation.
MKCF kindly awarded SSIB the grant, and community artist Helen Taylor agreed to support the children on the project. Robbie Caddock from Milton Keynes Council helpfully arranged to take down the panels, repair them, and transport them to the school, and Laura Boddington, Head of Art at the Radcliffe School, responded enthusiastically when SSIB approached her to see if pupils at the school would like to be involved in the project. On Friday, 10th July the Mayor attended a ceremony in the Wolverton Rd Rec to celebrate the re-installed panels of the youth shelter after they'd been beautifully painted by the pupils of Radcliffe School under the guidance of the Helen Taylor and Laura Boddington. They've been painted in bright, welcoming colours, and reflect flowers and fauna of the four seasons.
